Fight for Protection of Central American Refugee and Migrant Children
Issue:
Mexico has many cultural aspects which make it unique and a great place to go for vacation. It is also home to many people in the United states which makes the attraction of this country greater since the country is more accessible. Nevertheless, it violates the idea of people having the right to life, liberty, and their security as a person. The children are the ones that are being most impacted by this issue because they are most easily to get peer pressured into things like gang activity and especially because of the fact that this is a huge problem that mexico contains. It is understandable to know that the country is currently going through so many other situations that it is hard to only focus on the children, but it is not okay to work at a pace in which people will assume that you simply don’t care what happens to some people that you might know.
While the security of a person is something that should be considered, Mexico is told to not have the time needed to go through people's emotions because they need to first work on thing that are affecting the country economically. They believe that they can get something better out of money. They are opened opened to receiving money from people because they are willing to take get away from the poorness that surrounds the country. The security of a person is something that is completely being violated. Many kids have had to leave their country because they fear that if they stay, they will be taken away everything they love and maybe even their lives. Many kids also have to leave due to “economic reasons” and that is just unfair because most families go to other countries and have to begin from nothing to start their lives right (Closed Doors). Many kids lose their place in education because they have to learn a whole new language in order to be in school.
History:
The security of people in Mexico was determined to be violated during December 2015. There was an interview of about 61 kids and 46 of them were separated from their parents because of the need to have more money or because of the gang activity present in their old community. In the first 3 months of 2016 there were exactly 4,456 homicides (Lohmuller). This means that because there is so many people being killed, many mexicans will turn to the United states in order to not only have a better economy, but a better life in general. The Mexican government knows about these statistics but doesn’t make the effort to to improve them because it will cost a lot of money and that’s what they are suffering from. Corruption in Mexico has increased as demonstrated by an article from 2014 “It’s estimated that 22,000 people have disappeared in Mexico since the drug war began in 2006, and the recent disappearance of 43 students from police custody has reignited questions about the relationship between the state and drug cartels” (Quince and Gee) .
Values:
The values that many United States immigrant protesters hold is that they will be able to get their papers or some type of permit to stay in the country that they are in. This will allow people to be able to go back to their country whenever they want. People won’t have the idea that they won’t be able to come back to U.S. if they leave back to Mexico. Another belief that is within this immigration movement is that student immigrants will be able to get a hold of a great education for themselves in order to grow up to be someone successful. This is an influence that is being made throughout the government to help them pay for college and the offering of many scholarships.
Perspectives:
There are many people that support the movement of having to receive a better education and growing in their economy to not have to be able to move to another country to accomplish that. There are people outside of the country for example the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that are with this idea. The program provided a “haven for immigrants brought to US as children and provided them with work permits” (Solis). The United states president, Barack obama, worked 8 years in office, specifically, in order to help the immigrants that were in the United states to be able to receive the same rights as the citizens in the United States because he was aware of the increase in violence. It was stated that “President Obama’s push for legislation to fix our broken immigration system garnered broad bipartisan support both among the public and in the Senate and addressed all of the core problems our system faces” (Immigration). He knew about the Drug Cartel’s activity in Mexico and how that was causing many people in Mexico to flee their homes. It is considered very strongly that Mexico’s government should come up with better ideas to improve their country.
